6th edition, price increase, flyers meta, and malarky

Does this sound familiar GW?

It about that time of the year when GW looks around the war gaming table and chooses not to see anyone else there. GW states they are a model company, which I agree with. So lets review, They make very nice models and the plastic are 2nd to none. The finecast still sucks, forgeworld stuff is very cool, but not playable 100% of the time ( sorry but for the price I'd better be able to play the model ). The rules are not perfect, but what is 9 after all they are a "model company"? They have dropped tournament support, which is both good and bad for us. So with 6th ed looming and the introduction of flyer models ( and maybe new flyer rules ) things are going to be great!! right??
Before I get into this cluster $#$% I will say that I spend a large sum of money every month on models from GW and other companies. Where not talking 1 or 2 boxes here btw. I have 6 armies that range from of 2500 points up to 8k. I started in May of 2010 so I have been busy to say the least. So if you haven't figured thgis out I'm going to rant, yes this is a rant, but take heart as it will illustrate a point. Here goes.....

What I dislike about GW is the business model or lack of one. I also hate the tight lipped BS they feel they need to implement in a age of information. GW you treat your players like children and we are not children. Still no official word of 6th Ed. Piss poor rules with no clarification until months later if ever ( the INAT was started due to GW not FAQing the rules or at least in a timely manner ). Piss poor quality of the finecast line ( no, a free return is not quality control ). I could go on and on. What does this add up to??? It adds up to a openings for other companies to exploit. Angry customers will go to another company at the drop of a hat. Privateer press saw the GW price increase this year and again put out the starter set/ rule book sale just in time !!! LOLZ . They also let their player base know what is going on with teasers and actual pictures months before release. Does this affect sales? do people stop buying to wait for the new book. Well in the terms of the new Colossal release I'd say no. I bought a ton of stuff that I will be playing and will buy more. Oh and all the extra crazy stuff like the Colossal's and battle engine can be played in any game. No BS asking your opponent or is it on a list of "ok'd" in this tourney. Nope you buy it, do the points fit?, if yes that play the sucker.

So 6th Edition maybe is due in a month or 2 and my predictions are:
1.it will be more similar to Fantasy than ever before
2.Flyers will be a must have in the new meta, flyer rules will be crazy good
3.the ~ price of a new army will be $470 to start
4. it will nerf Nidz and Deamons further

So why the critical thinking about GW? It is this and this alone. Adepticon is the largest gaming convention and there is about 3-4k people there. Only a portions of that played and less only played GW. A typical convention see's 5-10k minimum. So what does that mean? It means we are a small community and the big dog GW is a margin smaller than what we think they are. They community stops playing for even a short time it could hurt GW where they actually go away. If 6th ed flops ( which I don' think it will ) I believe GW could fold.

So what am I going to do?

1. Play more of other game systems ( Warmahordes and Dust )
2. continue to play 40k ( I do like the game ), but I will no longer purchase GW models.
3. Since GW is no longer supporting tournaments I can use other companies models since there is no requirement. Pop on the correct base size and go. also most large gaming conventions have no problem with this just ask the organizer prior to the event.

This is what I'm going to do. I'm not saying it is right for everyone, but consider what happens when you placate to asshats? You will get #@$@.

BTW GW I have 2 new WARMAHORDES armies. Keep it up Dust Warfare is looking good too :)

Ok dumb A55's, really?really?

I think we can all agree the tyranids are on the bottom tier of armies at this point. Why than do people still have to post and feel the need to post "how to beat tyranids with IG, GK, or Space wolves"??? Really you can't beat a a super nerfed codex with your bag-o-tricks dexes. Maybe you should play other top tier dex's and get used to hard battles ( no games are auto wins ). Now there are great nid players that will give everyone a run for the money but they start off handicapped. Another great player with codex "X" should be able to win. C'mon guys! Maybe they should title these articles" How to badly beat the worst dex with your good dex so you feel better" . WE GET IT, YOU CAN BEAT A POOR CODEX EASILY and HERE'S HOW IF U CAN'T STAND TO MAYBE LOSE.

6th Ed Allies

With 6th edition around the bend it is a fantastic time for speculation on where the game of 40k will go. Most I think are taking this all in stride , but some are very up in arms about the "possible" changes that are rumored. I think the casual gamer will be effected less than most as they just like 40k, the entire 40k ( modeling, lists, paint, chit chat to friends about stuff). I don't game as much as I'd like and I lose more than I win, but being with friends, learning the tactics of the game, and exploring the fluff are what matters to me.

Now as I have set the stage lets get to the meat of this. Allies. Really GW?? So a allies chart is going around the interwebs are saying this army can join with this one or that one. A really novel idea if it is a large scale thing. Combinations galore and the increased popularity of the team tournaments show that there is a interest for such a dynamic. The one large glaring problem is Tyranids. The have received a big fat ZERO allies. It is true that they would just eat whoever tried to join their team, but with a a made up world GW couldn't come up with a reason? Maybe chaos enslaved ( spellbound ) nids, or Imperial nano control of a fractured hive fleet. Necrons want to get back to having a organic body and baring space Marines the perfect organisms are tyranids ( even more than Marines ). So again my favorite aliens are left to fringes of the game. I'm still holding out for 6th to give them a boost some way, but those hopes decline on a daily basis. I do know that if the allies rumors hold true the nids will disappear from any gaming circuit. ( FYI not one nid player in the GT at adepticon, ZERO)

If it all is true most tyranids will share this fate ( getting boxed up and put into storage ).

More SWM base goodness for my Tyranids

I'm hard at work trying to finish my Tyranids for 6th Ed. The Secret Weapon Miniatures bases are really fun to work with and very durable :) ( I've cut, sawed, burned and dropped them and they hold up to all the modding). Pick some up if your looking to really make your models pop.

Well enough jibber jabber. PICS Ahoy!

Almost done Tervigon

New Tyrannofex waiting to get his shiny new SWM base

Waiting to NOM NOM his way to terra

WIP Tyrannofex customized Steel Invasion base with added acid burned ( I actually burned him LOL )Grey Knight!!!

Sorry Mr. Justin but the T-Fex made a mess of your bases, as it belongs to him now :)

Zombicide and what you need to know.

So last night while looking through the various BS on Dakka Dakka I saw this thing for Zombicide under rumors. It is being implemented from kickstarter funding website and Cool mini or not. Well I looked into it and it seems to be a fun game to break the 40k burnout blues. So I'm not vouching for the production company will fall on their face or will be awesome, but they seem legit and have over 200k of backing from the "fans". I jumped on the bandwagon and pledged as well. The reasons are simple.

1. for ~$120 for get a game with 100 plus 28mm models.
2. looks easy to learn and can be played again and again without using same terrain etc.
3. you get 100+ models for $120!!! ships free in US, recieve a T-shirt, etc. and there are lots of ETC for this game.
4. zombies and killing them are pretty fun so why not.
5. Zombie @ 28mm could make great chaos cultists, I'm just saying for maybe the future of a certain chaos edition oriented rule book. Cross platform table of YES!

Tyranids 2.0 and the Giger base

My first army was the tyranids and I guess since everything comes and goes in circles I was going to come back to them. So I have started the long crappy task or stripping and repainting everything in my army ( as well as adding some stuff ). I'm going with custom bases from Secret Weapon Miniatures and using the ALIENS paint scheme. I really hope they don't get nerfed in 6th. Well here are the pics of me going through the progression. Enjoy and please post comments :)
